To our knowledge, this is a completely “one of a kind” project. Village Foundations is proud to have a talented ex NHS nurse with 20+ years of experience in both hospital and district nursing and specialist tropical medicine training from the prestigious Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine on our team. Because of this, VF are able to offer a unique district nursing service around the Mangochi region. We can send a qualified and registered district nurse to the homes of patients, who, through no fault of their own have ailments, illnesses and injuries that stop them from being able to attend our clinics and health posts.
These services include, but are not limited to:
- Chronic disease screening
- Hypertension (high blood pressure) management services
- Diabetes management
- Stroke aftercare
- Dressing and wound care services
- Nursing for immobile patients
- Home visitation consultations and treatments
These are all provided as part of the Village Foundations ethos that high quality healthcare is an essential element to successful and prosperous villages. This service also allows us to treat people beyond our traditional borders, where financial pressures and availability of resources and staff do not allow us to build a full-scale project in every town or village that could benefit from our help. Providing district nursing services help us to take the healthcare setting to the patient in situations where the patient is unable to go to the healthcare setting and would otherwise be forgotten.
This unique offering is made possible by our dedicated team in Malawi, with multiple dozens of checks and treatments undertaken every week, improving access to high quality healthcare in a setting where no other offerings exist. As an invention of necessity, this project has become one of our great success stories, providing an innovative solution to a problem in a way that brings healthcare provision to those with the greatest need and the fewest options.
