Jon Thornton – CEO

Jon has been with Village Foundations since its inception in 2006. His main areas of responsibility include providing direction and oversight for the organisation, always looking for new initiatives both in the UK and Malawi. He’s also responsible for the financial management of the Charity and leads on the promotion of VF activities with a view to securing interest from professionals who have a variety of skills and knowledge.

Having a background in youth and community work, Jon holds a BA degree in Youth and Community Development. He hopes, one day, to build on this with a Masters in International Development.

Jon’s extensive background in community development includes working with GOAL, an Irish NGO (non-governmental organisation), as a project manager, overseeing successful agricultural projects; also working with the European Union & United Nations Food & Agricultural projects to deliver sustainable food projects across Malawi.

He has visited Malawi over twenty times since the year 2000. His desire to impact communities and villages has not waned from his first visit.

Outside of VF, Jon is an active minister of The Congregation of Yahweh UK. His hobbies include playing tennis, walking in the Lake District (Cumbria), and visiting his family and friends in the Northeast, UK. He’s also a Trustee of other humanitarian Charities which work in Rwanda and Bosnia, while supporting initiatives in India and Myanmar.
